Robert GriffithROBERT GRIFFITH … began preaching as a teenager in the Uniting Church in Australia. He went on to serve the church as a lay preacher, youth leader, home group leader and deacon across four Christian denominations. At the height of a successful career in business management, Robert’s long term conviction to enter full time ministry crystallised at the age of 30 and he entered college and then served as a Baptist pastor for 19 years. For the last 15 years of that time he was Senior Pastor of Orange Baptist Church in central western NSW. Teaching and preaching formed a large part of Robert’s ministry over those two decades and his desire to make the gospel simple, Biblical, engaging and relevant produced some of the most passionate and confronting teaching seen for many years.

Robert is married with five children and four grandchildren. He has served on national boards and has also dipped his toe in the pool of

politics at a local and national level. His career before and after full time ministry and his many connections across the community and

nation have helped Robert relate extremely well to the needs and views of a wide variety of people from all walks of life. This is reflected

in his straight-talking style which has penetrated many hearts over the years.

THIS WEBSITE takes its name from a foundational teaching series Robert first delivered in 1993 in Orange Baptist Church.

The tapes from that series are still being passed around across Australia and overseas nearly 20 years later. Setting the Captives Free

is not just the title of one sermon series – it is in fact the overall mission to which Robert felt called many years ago and the ‘captives’

are not just the unbelievers in our society – but even more so the countless number of sincere, believing Christians across the world who

have been enslaved by a false gospel, burdened by the yoke of legalism and left with a view of God which is confusing and debilitating.
