The plan that made us shiver ...

There was movement in the nation, for the word had passed around

  that the climate change debate had lost its way

Now the people were divided so our government decided

  that a carbon tax would surely make our day!

So in spite of her big promise, Julia Gillard did the deed

  and told us all we needed this big tax

With Bob Brown’s script in hand, she made her public stand

  and led the way, regardless of the facts.

Now millions are invested in the Climate Change Commission

  as they seek to shed some light on our confusion

But the tax is not negotiable, through the science in unclear

  and millions now are caught in this illusion

A thousand years they tell us, before we see real change!

  But the economic cost is overnight

With power bills on the rise and our industry’s demise

  can anybody free us from this plight?

And meanwhile overseas the big polluters watch and smile

  as foolishly we punch above our weight

For without a global scheme this is just a nasty dream

  that destroys all that we love and made us great

Like the man from Snowy River, we are heading downhill fast

  and it won’t be climate change that gets the blame

Global warming is a nonsense if you can’t afford to live

  but Ms Gillard’s ‘moving forward’ just the same!

Our poor are getting poorer and our homeless still are cold

  and refugees are waiting to be freed

So before we waste our millions on what ‘might’ occur one day

  let’s focus on some real and present needs
